Ad Account Restricted Facebook Policy Violations

Let’s talk about the reality of getting an ad account restricted Facebook has a unique approach.

Advertising restrictions for policy violations

When you get an ad account restricted Facebook won’t exactly call you up with a full explanation of why, how bad the ad account restriction is, and what to do to get your Facebook ads live again.

Meta is simply too big now to offer personalized staffing solutions to give advertisers and business owners like yourself, clear and transparent answers.

Understanding 3 types of restricted accounts

Let’s go over understanding 3 types of restricted accounts. Now, once you become familiar with the flagging system the automations use to identify noncompliant content, it gets a little easier to side step the land mines.

One thing you can depend on is Facebook won’t give you the exact reason why you have an ad account restricted Facebook doesn’t always know why given their hiring practices of outsourcing labor.

Something simple and stupid that can get you banned as well as getting the unusual activity flag. But what is that flag exactly?

1. Your advertising access is restricted: Unusual Activity

Advertising restrictions for unusual activity

Advertising restrictions for unusual activity is the bane of advertisers. It is one of the fastest ways to get an entire funnel disabled and get you locked out of Facebook.

What leads to this happening?

Whenever you log into Facebook while traveling, you’re increasing the chance of a ban due to unusual activity. DO NOT log into business tools on Facebook while you’re traveling. Schedule out your ads ahead of time, and organic posts, and talk to an assistant located where the ads are usually run from.

During my years working at Facebook I helped thousands of advertisers from SMBs to Fortune 500s solve Facebook ad issues (make sure to read Common Ad Policies Explained).

I know it’s kind of idiotic to think, I’m spending tons of money every month on Facebook ads, and all it takes is one vacation to Cuba, logging into Facebook business tools, and now everything is shut down.

Really, it’s for your own protection because there are a lot of hackers out there right now. Also, it points out just how granular Facebook restrictions can get – so it’s good to know when and how you can get restricted to ensure your entire funnel is squeaky clean.

2. Ad Account Restricted Facebook account

Typically, your ad account doesn’t get restricted right away. Usually you’ll have other smaller flags leading up to this. Like, a consistent history of rejected ads. But, with the upcoming presidential election in America, Facebook is getting stricter.

Your ad account may get restricted from just a small mistake now. That’s due to the amount of hackers flooding America from overseas in countries like China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Malaysia and more.

As a result, you’ll hit the second type of restriction, and get a Facebook ad account restricted seemingly out of nowhere

Your advertising access is restricted – what does it mean?

What to do if your Facebook Ad Account is disabled and everything you can do to reinstate including how to resolve payment issues, rejected ads, and get support.

When you get an ad account restricted facebook is basing this from your ad account’s of the background history. Everything is recorded on Facebook. Near misses, actual bans, ad rejections.

Just like my clients in cosmetic surgery discovered, there are micro flags in ad copy and landing pages that have to be removed first before attempting to appeal or relaunch a brand with Facebook after a permanent ban after getting a Your advertising access is restricted rejection.

Even software engineers AT Facebook AND Twitter have reached out to me, asking for help with their restricted ad accounts. That’s how bad the automation restrictions have gotten.

3. Your Ad Account is Permanently Restricted

Oh geez Rick! Why did you have to go and piss off interdimensional Facebook aliens? Now my personal ad account is permanently restricted!

Sadly, a permanent restriction is no laughing matter as it usually means you are forever banned from advertising on Facebook. This is the 3rd type of account restrictions. Are you personally stuck in that position? I have a way out, like Michael Scofield escaping Facebook prison. Book a complimentary call here.

Reasons why Facebook ad account is permanently restricted

Ad Account Restricted Facebook Flags

Often Facebook may use header flags, like Circumventing Systems, to flag that something is wrong with your funnel. But, the machines have yet to get a definite Facebook ad policy violation from your ads or lander. All the Facebook bots know is that something is non compliant.

Ad Account Restricted Facebook Length

A burning question many have is how long will you stay banned after getting an ad account restricted Facebook often stays silent here.

How long does a Facebook restriction last?

That’s a loaded question. Like who are you going to vote for in this coming election. The answer is: a few days, to infinity.

A few rare times, Facebook might reverse its decision within a week. Most of the time, you get locked in to that ban unless you have a jail-free card and a solid strategy on escaping Facebook policy prison.

Ad Account Restricted Facebook: Why

Time to talk about other flags that contribute to getting an ad account restricted Facebook sometimes picks and chooses smaller flags and combines them together before a complete ban.

Why does Facebook say my advertising access is restricted?

Facebook says your advertising access is restricted because of a series of either smaller minor flags that have added up to a perma restriction. Or because you violated the cardinal rule of advertising on Meta and talked about religion, politics, or capital punishment. Or F#$%ing crypto.

Typically, you’re on a scoring card by the bots, based on a ratio of approved versus disapproved ads. If you’re tilted towards the restriction side more than the approved ads, then Facebook may overreact to a minor flag. Something that may have normally slipped under the radar can get you banned if you have a history of smaller violations. And now, you’re searching for answers on Google, LinkedIn, maybe even Reddit, but still come up blank.

Facebook might say your advertising access is restricted because all appeals are exhausted and you didn’t do anything specifically to show Facebook that you aim to follow the policies.

Or, you might have encountered a complete ban-level flag that if even said once, can get it all shut down.

Your advertising access is restricted: Causes

I see a lot of cases where businesses try to make big claims that are over the line for what facebook allows. Then, it is very easy to get banned, especially when you use spammy sounding copy on Facebook. Your Facebook Page usually isn’t banned first, typically you’ll get some ad rejections first. This may then trickle down to higher CPAs.

If you haven’t course-corrected in a Facebook-approved way by now, Facebook will make the determination that these Facebook ad policy missteps are intentional, leading to a Your advertising access is restricted ban.

Ad Account Restricted Facebook: Before & After

The actions you take that lead up to an ad account restricted Facebook logs as well.

How did I get myself restricted from advertising on Facebook?

In an ideal world you’d get a notification in emails from Facebook, or from the bell icon in the Meta Business Suite, or the Business Manager settings that notifies you of current ad restrictions when you get the Your advertising access is restricted ban.

How can I tell if my account was restricted?

Here’s the weird part: Facebook changes how they notify you of an ad account being restricted almost every time. Sometimes you’ll click the bell icon in Facebook Business Manager and see the ban there.

Other times it’s in red text above your ads in Ads Manager. And rarely, you may get an email from Facebook. But, if you go to create an ad and Facebook won’t let you, that’s the fastest way to find out if you’re restricted.

What does having my account restricted mean?

It means you’re on the shit list, the no fly zone buddy, the he can enter, she can enter, he can enter, oh no, sorry bud, not you. You can’t advertise. It means you may just have an ad account restricted, but your Page may be ok and your Facebook Business Manager may be ok, but your ad account is not.

The first step you take you should be careful about if you’re dealing with an ad account restricted facebook often takes fast actions in this situation.

Your advertising access is restricted: First Steps

What do I do if my Facebook account is restricted from advertising?

A big mistake I see businesses make – even 8 figure businesses – is to quickly click Request Review before diagnosing why they were banned, and the severity of the flags that led up to seeing: Your advertising access is restricted.

What if my ad account restriction is not lifted?

For many businesses, an ad account restricted situation isn’t resolved in a day. It can end up always being banned but, there are methods of getting Facebook ads live again even if it seems like Facebook won’t help. Schedule a discovery call today.

Now, moving on to the first steps to take with Facebook bans.

How do I unrestrict my Facebook ads?

Yelling at Facebook ad support and typing in all caps, probably won’t make you any friends. So, avoid that approach. If you have another ad account that is not restricted, after warming it up, you can potentially advertise again. Just don’t make the same mistake twice!

Ad Account Restricted Facebook: Troubleshooting

Up next are some tips when auditing your funnel for Facebook compliance.

To troubleshoot your restricted account

What should you do first? Well, start with the audit, determine a theme amongst flags, and specifically look at how the Facebook ad policy automations apply to your type of business.

Facebook’s automations don’t act the exact same way with every business. Some niches are at higher risk than others. And, if you’re in a special ad category, you have limited targeting abilities. The ad policies come down on your brand in a different way.

You’d think Meta wants your money instead of forcing folks to google stuff like, “your advertising access is restricted facebook how to fix,” but after the Great Tech Layoffs, Facebook’s reliance on automations just got supersized.

But this is where I can help, having done so much at Meta and working with established organizations like even my alma mater, the University of Texas.

If you’ve been shutdown a lot but never got answers, you’re like one of my clients, Steve Martinez, Vice President of Apollidon Learning.

“Trevor took us through the process of getting one of our University of Texas ad accounts reinstated (within minutes). He offered some critical insights to why our Facebook Ad Account was disabled and shared options to reduce our chances of future issues. We have a better understand of how the algorithm works and know exactly what to do and say if our account gets disabled again.”

Ad Account Restricted Facebook Appeals

Appealing can give your ad account a second wind, but only if you understand how to appeal correctly.

How to appeal advertising restrictions

It’s that time again! Let’s debunk myths about Facebook ad account bans! Wordstream’s blog incorrectly tells you this about appealing a rejected Facebook ad:

News alert: Requesting review does not send your ad to a human. It just gives your ad’s rejection case to another machine who then says, “Oh, the 1st machine was right,” – 2nd machine.

The entire line of thinking here is wrong.

What you want to do with an appeal to give yourself the best shot is to identify all the minor flags in your funnel, and the major flags. This includes your website as well as Facebook Page.

After doing this, gauge how severe each flag is, because the severity will determine what options you have for appeals. Before doing anything else: remove those flags, by replacing the flagged copy with compliant copy Facebook does approve of.

Only THEN, do you appeal. I’ve got this down to a science, if you do have a chance (the best appeals are within 48 hours of the ban hammer dropping), the process above will get you the best shot at recovering.

Your ads have received a significant amount of negative feedback

If your product testing didn’t go well, or you have created low quality ads, Facebook users may use the self-service tools to report your ads to Facebook. Yes, this will get you in trouble.

The solution is more beta testing to find what your target audience does respond well to, and give it to them. An even bigger danger as far as avoiding bans goes, is taking the wrong advice online.

Another idiotic blog you may land on when googling “Ad account restriction facebook” tells you right off the bat they don’t know a damn thing about ad account restrictions on Facebook:

That “Don’t fret” shit is hilarious – and spoken like a true grunt just writing out copy without the real life lived experience of running ads on Facebook that get rejected, and domino into ad account or business managers being disabled.
Not only that, this website has copied a lot from my blog here, but only on the surface-level, mimicking my headlines but not able to give you a straight answer in the content.

Suffice to say, a lot of the info out there on the interwebs is blatantly false, spindoctoring answers based on random guesses, reappropriated answers miscommunicated, and flatout bullshit with a clickbait title but no substance.

Let me help you out more here, given my experience at Meta, and answer some frequently asked questions.

Ad Account Restricted Facebook FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How to fix ad account disabled on facebook

Your first step should always be to stop active ads running with the same copy as the rejected ad, then audit your funnel for flags, and appeal using the strategy outlined in the appeal section of the FAQs

2. How to enable my disabled facebook ad account

If you have a spare ad account in your Facebook Business Manager that you can run ads from, feel free to. BUT, identify the micro and major flags FIRST, so as not to repeat the same mistake.

3. How to appeal a disabled facebook ad account

As far as how to appeal a disabled Facebook ad account, you’ll get 48 hours to make your appeal. The best strategy is to communicate to Meta | Facebook that:

A. You understand WHY you were banned.
B. You are committed to following the policies from here on out.
C. You have identified and REMOVED the offending content from your funnel.

You can also get some top tips on facebook ad policy in this complimentary eBook: Top 5 Reasons Agencies Fail at Facebook

4. how to get disabled ad account up and running

Depending on how long your ad account was disabled, sometimes, if your appeal is written correctly, the appeal itself CAN potentially get you reactivated, if you understand to communicate with Facebook ad support correctly.

5. How Many Policy Violations Before Account is Shut Down?

Typically, it’s a 1 to 10 ratio. For every single rejected ad that you get, you’ll want 10 Facebook ads that are approved. After a pattern of behavior is established by machine learning, from Meta’s automations, you may spiral rapidly into Facebook jail if your ratios aren’t correct. 3 consecutive ads getting rejected risks your ad account getting disabled. But, it also depends on how severe the ban is.

And, if this still all seems too confusing, your clients are yelling at you to get ads live to bring in money, simply schedule a complimentary Facebook discovery call here

6. How to remove restriction on facebook ad account

As far as removing a restriction on a Facebook ad account, if we’re talking about a disabled ad account, well, you can rehabilitate your funnel and then appeal, possibly getting it reactivated if you do this SMART (I have methods that work if you’re in the appeal window). But as far as removing a restriction from Facebook ads, see the previous FAQ answer: you need to get in a positive approval-cycle ratio.

7. how long does facebook take to review restricted ad account

Now, ask yourself, is it an election year? Have there been over 20,000 Meta employees laid off? Did you word your appeal using specific language Facebook ad support can and will respond better to? These are the factors in play. Typically, you get an answer within a week. If you have a more severe ban or are in the special ad categories, you may get an answer faster but it won’t be one you like. Severe bans end up as permanent restrictions and they deliver that ban hammer faster than other lighter Facebook ad policy restrictions.

8. how to fix your access can’t be reinstated because too much time has passed since we restricted your account

In a situation like this, your recovery options depend on what is banned:

a) Facebook Ad Account
b) Facebook Business Page
c) Facebook Business Manager
d) Facebook profile

So, each one may have a different recovery option, depending on your situation, and type of ban it is, as well as your particular niche or business’s vertical, and the health of the accounts before the ban. Want to get a pathway to get Facebook ads live? Schedule your complimentary discovery call here.

9. How To Get Your Disabled Facebook Ad Account Back

First, let me also address the elephant in the room: personal and emotional attachments to disabled ad accounts. I’ve worked with tons of Fortune 500 level companies, and the amount of hair pulling and FML-ing over ONE ad account being disabled, is incredible. Sometimes, it’s faster, and cheaper, to just start a new ad account, and relaunch, rather than recover a tainted asset.

That being said, the same answer applies here to the instructions above, for appeals

10. How to unblock your Facebook ad account

Now, unblocking an ad account, may be possible if you get in fast enough with the right kind of messaging to Facebook ad support. While they are the gatekeepers, and don’t have any real power, they CAN talk to the right folks who, if you word your appeal right, can unblock your Facebook ad account. And of course, if you need next-level assistance, I’m always available to chat and see if it’s a good fit here.
