Have you been banned by Facebook with a facebook ad account restricted and are seeking a solution? And Mark Zuckerberg’s announcement that fact checkers are leaving Facebook makes you think ad bans will be less?
Meta’s automations have wreaked havoc for years on businesses and ad agencies due to the indiscriminate banning for saying 1 wrong word that Facebook’s bots flag and shut down your Facebook Page, Profile, Ad Account or Business Manager.
But, some hope that Mark Zuckerberg’s new announcement holds the promise of relief:
“It’s time to get back to our roots about free express on Facebook and Instagram.” – Zuck
There is a HUGE catch most businesses don’t realize that comes with this change I’ll reveal later in this article.
With less than two weeks before the new Trump administration takes office, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg announced a sweeping set of policy changes that will do away with fact-checkers on the company’s platforms and reduce restrictions on the posts its users can share.
Allegedly.
Many businesses facing a facebook ad account restricted are reading Mark Zuckerberg’s announcement that Meta is removing fact checkers:
“On platforms where billions of people can have a voice, all the good, bad and ugly is on display. But that’s free expression.”
If you’re a brand that relies on Facebook ads to generate ROI you’re paying close attention:
“We built a lot of complex systems to moderate content…The recent elections also feel like a cultural tipping point towards once again prioritize speech…We’re going to get rid of fact checkers and replace them with Community Notes, similar to [Twitter]. We used to have filters that scanned for any policy violation. Now we’re going to focus those filters on tackling ..”
The fact checkers have been too politically biased and destroyed more trust than they created, especially in the US.
Facebook and Instagram will no longer do fact checking, leaving it to users to flag objectionable content. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg calls it an effort to avoid bias or censorship, but concedes they will now “catch less bad stuff.
Sounds amazing when one word can get you banned.
“Is this really true?” You ask, if you’re googling “What part of my funnel was flagged?” or “Why did I get a facebook ad account restricted?”
The answer is yes and no. You’d be surprised to learn:
This directly connects to recent changes Meta has made to Leadform ads AND CBD ads. I’ll reveal more on that later in this article.
But wait, with Meta’s literal obsession with AI – how are they scaling back now?
We’ve seen Meta:
-Build LLMs to compete with Sam Altman’s ChatGPT-
-Use FB Live to video competing with YouTube-
-Make Facebook shops with Shopify Integrations, to compete with Amazon-
But now we’re supposed to believe without FB fact checkers – ADVERTISING will get easier with less FB bans??
Are the Facebook ad ban automations FINALLY taking it easy on us? Is this the final vision of paradise advertisers and businesses have prayed for, literally for years?
And, I’ve worked at Facebook, Apple and Microsoft, so I’ll be sharing my insider perspective on Mark Zuckerberg’s new decision to remove fact checkers and reveal how this will affect Facebook advertising.

I’ll also provide tips for what to do about getting a facebook ad account restricted.
From Facebook:
Zuck says there is a new way facts will be checked.
Takeaways
- Starting in the US, we are ending our third party fact-checking program and moving to a Community Notes model.
- We will allow more speech by lifting restrictions on some topics that are part of mainstream discourse and focusing our enforcement on illegal and high-severity violations.
- We will take a more personalized approach to political content, so that people who want to see more of it in their feeds can.
The danger of Meta’s big fact-checking changes & Facebook ad account restricted:
With less than two weeks before the new Trump administration takes office, Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg announced a sweeping set of policy changes that will do away with fact-checkers on the company’s platforms and reduce restrictions on the posts its users can share.
Zuckerberg said the changes are meant to address political “bias” and curtail “censorship” — echoing arguments that President-elect Donald Trump and his supporters have long made about the platform.
In lieu of fact-checkers, Facebook will employ a “Community Notes” model like the one used on X.
As it operates on X, Community Notes allows users to add context and corrections to other people’s posts, though studies show it can be slower and cover different subjects than professional fact-checking.
Zuckerberg also said the site would relax its policies for moderating posts and allow more content on issues including “immigration and gender” instead of taking them down. (According to a Wired review, some of these changes appear to have already gone into effect.)
For users interested in seeing more political content, Zuckerberg noted that Meta plans to reintroduce more of these posts into people’s feeds as well.
In a five-minute video announcing the changes, Zuckerberg said the fact-checkers Facebook has worked with were “too politically biased” and had harmed user trust, and jabbed at the Biden administration for the “censorship” it’s allegedly employed against Meta.
(Zuckerberg didn’t specify what he meant by that claim, though tech companies have previously fielded requests from the Biden administration about removing posts related to Covid-19 misinformation and election fraud.)
Broadly, Meta’s announcement signals a willingness among tech companies to cater to Trump as they seek to preserve their business prospects and avoid political retaliation from a frequent, strident critic.
Its shifts in content moderation also have serious implications for the types of posts and misinformation that can spread on its platforms, which include Facebook, Instagram, and Threads.
Advertisers and businesses all over the world have been contacting me, because I worked at Facebook for so long, on what this means for running ads on Facebook.
Right now, if you have a facebook ad account restricted, and chat in to Facebook ad support…hat in hand, asking these poorly trained workers to help with a facebook ad account restricted and they can’t understand half of what you say, reflexively just repeating back to you everything you chat on Facebook ad support.
Will this get better with the fact checkers removed? With less facebook ad account restricted issues?
Let’s review the changes to content moderation:
Changes to content moderation
- Replacing fact-checkers with Community Notes: Meta had worked with 90 independent organizations to fact-check posts that spread on its platforms. Those fact-checkers would append warning labels to false content, and Meta would also reduce the distribution of those posts. Zuckerberg has accused the fact-checkers of being politically biased, while providing no examples, and said they’ll be replaced with a Community Notes system that will be phased in over the coming months.
- Reducing content restrictions on topics like “immigration and gender:” Zuckerberg said the platforms will focus on removing posts that contain “illegal and high-severity violations” and allow more posts to stay up that they might have previously been flagged. Effectively, the company is cutting back on content moderation in general and taking down fewer posts on hot-button political issues.
- Bringing back politics content: Meta had previously downgraded politics content and reduced the distribution of it on its platforms, citing user requests for less of this content in their feeds. Zuckerberg announced that Meta would be phasing political content back into users’ feeds due to changing demands.
- Moving content and moderation teams: In another bid to address alleged political bias, Zuckerberg said Meta’s content moderation team will move from California to Texas.
- Working with Trump to combat censorship by other countries: Zuckerberg committed to collaborating with Trump to fight censorship and regulations in other countries, pointing to the blocking of Meta apps in China and European tech policies he claimed were stifling innovation.

Facebook ad account restricted Meets Fact Checkers
Here’s the reality of any change to Facebook – It Takes Time to Become Real
As sweeping and widespread as creating the Special Ad Category field for Real Estate ads or CAPI API to battle Apple’s IOS 14 update reducing 3rd party data for retargeting…
How Apple screwed Facebook
As Wired reports, it is not unusual for the bosses of Apple and Facebook to be at loggerheads with each other over privacy.
Back in 2018 Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg accused his Apple counterpart Tim Cook of being “extremely glib” for making scathing remarks about Facebook’s involvement in the Cambridge Analytica scandal.
Weeks later Apple introduced privacy controls that hampered Facebook’s ability to collect user data via Apple devices.
Things moved up a notch at the end of last year after Apple revealed that app-tracking transparency would be installed as part of its latest system update.
Until iOS 14.5 came along, apps like Facebook could automatically track what people were looking at on their phones and sell targeted ad space accordingly. The update was designed so users were asked their permission for the tracking to happen first
Apple, using user privacy as a straw man, blocked FB from tracking data and Facebook responded by creating CAPI, that allows FB advertisers to still use retargeting with the Facebook pixel.
So Apple could later insert ads into their native apps right after claiming to champion small businesses and people privacy from ads.
All of this took TIME.
The Truth About Fact Checkers
For everyone thinking it’s some kind of magic wand every time Mark Zuckerberg does a press conference – the reality is nothing he said relates to Facebook advertising policies.
And none of what he said about organic content fact checked, will be instantly perfected and gone off without a hitch.
Machines take time to learn the machine learning part of any automated flagging system. This requires data. It requires machines making mistakes. Flagging the wrong content first, learning, then flagging someone else.
Times this by like a million different interactions – and maybe the machines Facebook uses to moderate content might get it right, 50% of the time.
So, already, the odds are not stacked in the public’s favor if you want to go the blind trust route that Facebook will instantly “perfect” the flagging and removal of flagging fact checking info.
No doubt, there will still be a rogue automation here or there that will act on old info, and still flag fact checking type content.
So, talk about abortion, politics, and covid at your peril on Facebook ORGANICALLY.
BUT…
What’s the HUGE elephant in the room NO ONE is talking about?
Fact Checkers & Organic Content & Advertising Restrictions
If you’re jumping for glee that this new policy change will prevent a Facebook ad account restricted because Facebook is getting lenient – THINK AGAIN.
This is for ORGANIC content.
Did you notice what Mark Zuckerberg is replacing Fact Checkers with?
Community Notes model. This is based on The Community Standards.
NOT FACEBOOK ADVERTISING POLICIES. So if you ignore that huge fact and run ads like it’s 2016, you’ll get banned.
Getting a Facebook ad account restricted happens when FB ad policy automations build a character profile of your ad account based on ad approval vs ad rejection basis.
Get too many ad rejections and alarm bells ring, and the bots descend like Transformer Decepticons to shut you down.
You wouldn’t believe the one small thing that got a million dollar skin care company shut down before we worked together. All it takes is one word to get your funnel banned.
Community Standards are the Facebook policies that regulate NON ADVERTISING Facebook content uploaded to the Facebook Newsfeed.
Facebook ad account restriction: Small Flags
When it comes to running ads on Facebook there are smaller flags Facebook’s bots like to tally up, like mean notes from your passive aggressive roommate. It takes time to accumulate the amount of smaller flags that turn into a full funnel ban one day.
But Mark’s taking away fact checking bots so we should all be ok in the ad world right?
Think again.
Facebook account restricted what to do about Fact Checking removed
2 different types of content, 2 different flagging systems.
Community Standards for organic non ad content and facebook ad policies for all Facebook ad content. When you get your advertising access restricted it means the Facebook bots found something big or small somewhere in your funnel that violated Facebook’s advertising policies NOT THE COMMUNITY STANDARDS.
It’s important to remember that ads flagged for breaking FB ad policy have an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT triage for how Facebook’s robots, and sparse customer service agents handle this than a Community Standards violation.
Therefore the removal of fact checkers HAS NO EFFECT ON FACEBOOK AD BANS.
They won’t get less or more because of this.
Well, more advertisers might end up with a facebook ad account restricted because they ignored how this ad policy change is only for Community Standards-regulated organic content not ads.
Remember when I said this links to Lead Form ads and CBD? The reliance on automation from Meta has caused more damage to businesses than many are aware of.
And in the same way the trust in Facebook to perfect their flagging system has caused many to get a facebook ad account restricted – Facebook also killed lead form ads unless you adjust one setting.
I’ve seen folks banned for how they phrased their shipping and handling policies. It was a cosmetic beauty company, so they had to watch out for getting hit with the Personal Attributes flag. Ready to stop guessing and stop losing money and time? Click here for a complimentary discovery call.
A High risk industry on Facebook is cosmetic beauty and how Facebook ad policy bots flag cosmetic surgeons and med spas is pretty extreme.
Cosmetic Beauty, Fact Checkers, Facebook Ad Account Restricted
So, if you’re in the cosmetic beauty, how does the fact checking going away affect your industry? Well, if you’re used to making crazy claims organically – lose 50 pounds over night! – you may have less to worry about.
BUT
If the sales from your cosmetic beauty practice, med spa to plastic surgeon, rely on Facebook ads to turn a profit, then please understand that nothing has changed in the Facebook advertising policies. The announcement Mark Zuckerberg made about taking fact checkers away NEVER mentions ADs!!
So Before and After images Are STILL BANNED ON FB! What Zuck DID say was that he is going to add more humans, less automations when it comes to organic Community Standards content – Which never banned before and afters if they are posted on IG or FB – ORGANICALLY.
Read what Mark Zuckerberg said word for word:
Do you see the word “Ad” ANYWHERE in there? The SAME facebook ad policies STILL apply to side-by-side images for before and after images STILL banned as Facebook’s ad policies STILL say before and after images are not allowed:
But, hey, why take it from me? Why not let Mark Zuckerberg tell you himself how…NONE of the fact checker removal has ANYTHING to do with ads..tell me the time stamp where he says “advertising” ?
Mark Zuckerberg announced the last project I worked on at Facebook, when I was a Project Manager for New Products department, working on Stars On Reels and other major projects that made the news and changed the face of Facebook forever afterwards.
So I think I know what I’m talking about.
But, either way, you can watch the entire video – you’ll never see anything saying, “We’ve lightened up the restrictions our Facebook ban bot automations use to ban businesses.”
You can also read the transcript and check yourself and see how none of this applies to Facebook ads:
The removal of Fact Checkers ONLY applies to NON AD content, posted ORGANICALLY on Facebook’s Newsfeed. Not Facebook Ads for cosmetic surgeons, weight loss businesses, skin care companies, med spas and more.
So if you own a Med Spa, like my client Clint Huston’s Mobile Wellness Care in Arizona, you’ll want to tread carefully, and still follow Facebook’s ad policies to a T, if you are running ads in the cosmetic beauty space.
Do you own a med spa and don’t want to get banned on Facebook? Schedule a free discovery call with me to find out how I can help protect your business from FB bans like I have with many cosmetic beauty clients:
Now, remember when I said this relates to FB Lead Form ads? Fact checkers getting removed and advertisers thinking this is a free ride to say whatever they want is the same trust businesses place in Meta for Lead Form ads.
That blind trust in Meta has gotten more than one business banned,
Like ads, automations and AI can ruin your results if left unchecked:
Facebook Lead Form Ads: Quality Leads Turned to Trash with Meta’s AI
Without your permission, Meta has been flipping on AI switches in your ad account and Facebook Business Page, that lead to trash leads. Reading their dusty help center article here you’ll see it says:
“By toggling on Display business information to encourage call pickup when you create a lead ad with instant form in Meta Ads Manager, you can call a prospective lead on their Facebook or Messenger app. Your business information, such as name and logo available on your Facebook Page, will appear on the incoming call screen. This gives people some context on who the caller is, which may make them more comfortable picking up your call and help you generate more quality leads.”
TLDR: Facebook is saying your leads from leadform ads can call you through Facebook messenger. Sounds great right?
Wrong. It’s terrible. Here’s why:
So someone blocked Facebook Messenger, why is that a big deal? Well it IS a big deal if you’re running Facebook lead form ads because:
What Facebook IS NOT EXPLAINING here is that if the Facebook user opting in to be a lead from your Facebook leadform ad, and that Facebook user previously had blocked receiving calls through Facebook Messenger, your CRM won’t know this and give you a dead lead with a broken phone number.
On TOP of all that it creates ALL KINDS OF AUTO FILL ERRORS. You’ll want to TURN OFF “Display business information to encourage call pickup” in your leadform ads to avoid Facebook trashing your leads. Again, Meta decided this WITHOUT ASKING YOU and FORCED IT into your ads and Page through their AI.
Protect yourself friends, turn that option off and get good quality leads again. Double check all your automation settings. Now, let’s continue to talk about why Meta is handing out a Facebook ad account restricted.
Facebook ad account restricted. Why does Facebook say my advertising access is restricted?
Facebook typically says your advertising access is restricted because it tracked a sequence of actions violating Facebook ad policies. It can be one thing that gets you a facebook ad account restricted after it’s removed you’re good, or it could be a series of smaller actions over time Facebook’s automations have logged and determined, overall, you are deliberately choosing not to follow policy.
Other times it could be a log in issue, a bank issue, or a business model conflict if the automations flag your ads as belonging to a banned business model (like MLMs). Make sure to read my blog on removing ad account restrictions here.
Facebook ad account restricted, Fact Checkers & CBD what does it mean?
What does it mean to have a Facebook ad account restricted? Well, it’s like having a bullseye on your back – and the machines Facebook uses will attempt to reinforce their initial judgement that you are against their rules.
When you get a Facebook ad account restricted, Facebook offers you a chance to appeal first. But, if instead of appealing you rush to resubmit the same ad with the same violations in it, it can lead to disabling your Facebook Business Manager too.
Remember when I said that the removal of fact checkers connected with FB’s policies on CBD? I covered this in my CBD article here, but the nuts and bolts of it is this:
Many CBD sellers trusted that after Google said it was cool, and Meta said you could sell CBD on FB a few months later, everyone thought it was Wild Wild West again. Blue Ocean. All that.
But it wasn’t. Businesses still got banned – I know because I was the one getting called to ask to help – because the machine learning hadn’t completely learned that CBD was supposed to be allowed on FB ads now.
The same thing will happen for organic content fact checkers used to shut down that now they allegedly won’t.
Machine learning takes time to learn. Meantime, you are the guinea pig, so tread carefully. Because while the fact checkers are only for organic content not facebook ads if you go buckwild and say some crazy political shit on your personal FB profile, Meta could restrict your profile from ever advertising.
And your business sales are being held hostage by both your rando impulses to post whatever without taking into account the same bots that shut down organic content before, will still be active before being phased out with new FB Community Standards bots.
Ain’t no human looking at your shit buddy. FB outsourced to robots instead of call centers. Also here’s a pro tip:
If someone else on your BM is in hot water with FB that can roll over on you too, because Meta will hold you responsible for another person’s facebook account restricted if you share the same BM. It’s tough, but there is a path to ban-free ads here.

Advertising restrictions for policy violations – The reality
If your Facebook account is restricted from advertising, it may hurt your ability to earn money in the future, so you’ll want to make sure your overall track record is in the black not the red. That means more approved ads than rejected. If your facebook account’s restricted it was done by bots.
Above you see the Community Standards – these are the policies being changed not the Facebook ad policies.
Given how automated Facebook’s policy bots are, to be successful not getting thrown in FB jail, you’ll want to understand how and why these policy automations flag to avoid being on their radar. There’s some nuance to this you’ll want to know to side step getting a facebook ad account restricted.
If you’ve read my Common Mistakes to Avoid When Advertising on Facebook you found out the hidden clues in FB warnings – that you may need an expert to decode into everyday language.
Just like my clients, the social media marketing agency for Wu-Tang Clan discovered, there are micro flags in ad copy and landing pages that have to be removed first before attempting to appeal or relaunch a brand with Facebook.

Ad Account Restricted Facebook FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Before going into the top 10 FAQs for facebook ad account restricted issues, let’s dive into the top questions from ad agencies:
What does a facebook ad account restricted mean?
When your ad account is restricted, you cannot run Facebook ads at all. It means that your other assets like your Facebook Business Page and your Facebook Business Manager may be at risk too after getting a facebook ad account restricted.
How did I get myself restricted from advertising on Facebook?
Bad habits. Everyone has habits and the habits you have when creating ads can get you in trouble if your habits don’t include a compliance check up or sometimes you can get banned for simply acting too quickly. I’ve seen a series of quick thoughtless actions lead to a facebook ad account restricted before.
How can I tell if my account was restricted if I have a facebook ad account restricted?
Facebook is supposed to send emails to your email account associated with your personal Facebook profile every time you have an ad approved and rejected. BUT, they end up in spam sometimes. You may not see these emails if your gmail has filtered these out to the promotions tab or social tab.
Logging into Meta Business Suite or Facebook Business Manager and going to the ad accounts you own on the Ads Manager page, you’ll typically see red letters detailing the warning you have gotten or ban.
How do I unrestrict my Facebook ads? Facebook ad account restricted tips
A good practice for preventing a facebook ad account restricted is to audit your funnel for potential flags and remove them, making everything compliant BEFORE submitting ads to Facebook to review.
And you don’t want a facebook account restricted because the ad account creation limit for new Facebook Business Managers is only 1 or 2 ad accounts most of the time. This means being aware of what may get banned and avoiding it is a full time job you can’t slack on if you want to avoid getting a facebook ad account restricted.
Why I get a facebook ad account restricted
Now, it is not your fault that you don’t understand the policies – Facebook is clear as the vision of a serious scotch drinker after the 4th glass. But, most likely your Facebook ad account is restricted because of a few words in your ad copy, privacy policy or the creative you chose.
Given my history of working with thousands of ad agencies both while I was working AT Facebook and in my own practice, I have stats on which ad policies are triggered the most in specific niches. Like personal attributes flags being higher in weight loss niches, or MLM flags being higher in the start-a-biz online vertical.
Understanding how YOUR specific niche interacts with Facebook ad policy automations is KEY to staying out of Facebook jail and avoiding a facebook account restricted.
Now, to address FAQs on disabled facebook ad accounts and more:
1. How to fix ad account disabled on facebook
Your first step should always be to stop active ads running with the same copy as the rejected ad, then audit your funnel for flags, and appeal using the strategy outlined in the appeal section of the FAQs
2. How to enable my disabled facebook ad account
If you have a spare ad account in your Facebook Business Manager that you can run ads from, feel free to. BUT, identify the micro and major flags FIRST, so as not to repeat the same mistake.
Ready to Finally Make the Money You Need in the Hours That Work for You & Your Family? Don’t miss out,Learn More here.
3. How to appeal a disabled facebook ad account
As far as how to appeal a disabled Facebook ad account, you’ll get 48 hours to make your appeal. The best strategy is to communicate to Meta | Facebook that:
A. You understand WHY you were banned.
B. You are committed to following the policies from here on out.
C. You have identified and REMOVED the offending content from your funnel.
You can also get some top tips on facebook ad policy in this complimentary eBook: Top 5 Reasons Agencies Fail at Facebook
4. how to get disabled ad account up and running
Depending on how long your ad account was disabled, sometimes, if your appeal is written correctly, the appeal itself CAN potentially get you reactivated, if you understand to communicate with Facebook ad support correctly.
5. How Many Policy Violations Before Account is Shut Down?
Typically, it’s a 1 to 10 ratio. For every single rejected ad that you get, you’ll want 10 Facebook ads that are approved. After a pattern of behavior is established by machine learning, from Meta’s automations, you may spiral rapidly into Facebook jail if your ratios aren’t correct. 3 consecutive ads getting rejected risks your ad account getting disabled. But, it also depends on how severe the ban is.
And, if this still all seems too confusing, your clients are yelling at you to get ads live to bring in money, simply schedule a complimentary Facebook discovery call here
6. How to remove restriction on facebook ad account
As far as removing a restriction on a Facebook ad account, if we’re talking about a disabled ad account, well, you can rehabilitate your funnel and then appeal, possibly getting it reactivated if you do this SMART (I have methods that work if you’re in the appeal window). But as far as removing a restriction from Facebook ads, see the previous FAQ answer: you need to get in a positive approval-cycle ratio.
7. how long does facebook take to review restricted ad account
Now, ask yourself, is it an election year? Have there been over 20,000 Meta employees laid off? Did you word your appeal using specific language Facebook ad support can and will respond better to? These are the factors in play. Typically, you get an answer within a week. If you have a more severe ban or are in the special ad categories, you may get an answer faster but it won’t be one you like. Severe bans end up as permanent restrictions and they deliver that ban hammer faster than other lighter Facebook ad policy restrictions.
8. how to fix your access can’t be reinstated because too much time has passed since we restricted your account
In a situation like this, your recovery options depend on what is banned:
a) Facebook Ad Account
b) Facebook Business Page
c) Facebook Business Manager
d) Facebook profile
So, each one may have a different recovery option, depending on your situation, and type of ban it is, as well as your particular niche or business’s vertical, and the health of the accounts before the ban. Want to get a pathway to get Facebook ads live? Schedule your complimentary discovery call here.
9. How To Get Your Disabled Facebook Ad Account Back
First, let me also address the elephant in the room: personal and emotional attachments to disabled ad accounts. I’ve worked with tons of Fortune 500 level companies, and the amount of hair pulling and FML-ing over ONE ad account being disabled, is incredible. Sometimes, it’s faster, and cheaper, to just start a new ad account, and relaunch, rather than recover a tainted asset.
That being said, the same answer applies here to the instructions above, for appeals
10. How to unblock your Facebook ad account
Now, unblocking an ad account, may be possible if you get in fast enough with the right kind of messaging to Facebook ad support. While they are the gatekeepers, and don’t have any real power, they CAN talk to the right folks who, if you word your appeal right, can unblock your Facebook ad account. And of course, if you need next-level assistance, I’m always available to chat and see if it’s a good fit here.
